Nutritionist and Gastric Bypass

Friday, July 31st, 2009

The other day I went to see a Nutritionist (specialist in Gastric Bypass patients), since I don’t absorb any vitamins…That is why I have to get IV treatments every 4-6 months…I figured I was doing something wrong…Imagine my surprise when she said I wasn’t…First thing we did was go over my whole life story starting when I got heavy and how I came to the decision of getting RNY…Then next she told me to do was write down in a food journal what I eat and how much I drink and to eat cereal like Total that has more vitamins in it…And I have tried every Whole Foods cereal that they have for vitamins and they don’t cut it…Before I left she had me weigh and I was good but the only problem I had was being a little dehydrated…One thing that struck me odd before I left but in a good way was that possibly we might only have one more session since my body might just have a hard time absorbing anything…But at least she was honest about it…She was a wonderful person and she understands that this can happen to Gastric Bypass patients…And when this happens there is only so much that can be done…That is where the IV treatments come…

So I started writing in the food journal yesterday afternoon, to my surprise I don’t eat much…

Gastric Bypass Issue

I think my b-12 might be a little low today…I have been experiencing spots and blurriness in my right eye…It’s a very strange feeling…One moment I can see clearly and the next it is blurry…Now my left eye is not doing this…How peculiar… Oh well I guess it’s something I’m going to have to live with…

You might ask yourself if I have experienced this before and my answer would be no…

Medical mishap

I had a procedure done a couple of weeks ago…Which was an upper EGD scope(they stick a long tube down my throat) to see why I was having acid reflux…Which I found ironic that the Doctor said we should not be producing any acid cause we don’t have a big enough stomach to do that…All I kept thinking was that this surgery doesn’t always do what it’s suppose to do…So imagine my surprise was when I woke up in the middle of the procedure…Well when I did that I can remember gagging and not being able to breathe…So obviously when I did that I tensed all my muscles up in my chest, and it bruised my throat and esophagus…Now it feels like I have someone sitting on my chest and there is nothing they can do until it heals…And I don’t know how long that will be…Is it wrong that I feel angry about this…They are doctors so they should have given me enough meds to knock me out…But I guess we are only human and things happen…I still don’t like it though…I’m dealing with enough, now just add this to my plate…Thanks

Ok, I never thought that when I went to the Hospital to visit my doctor that everyone would know me…It’s a weird experience when you go in and everyone is saying Hello Heather how are you doing…Is this right or does anyone else experience this?? I must be there alot for people to know me…The first thing that happened to me was when I walked through the double doors, the front desk register lady looked at me and said I saw your name and wondered what are you were doing here…This one nurse asked me if I worked there…That’s so not funny…
