TMI…

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s day…I guess your wondering why I put TMI as a headliner for today’s post, well I don’t want to gross anyone out who might be a bit queasy…This is an awkward situation to discuss…

You know I have been experiencing alot of stomach pain lately and I have been asking around to some WLS’er what could it possibly be…And they all came to the conclusion that it might be my Gallbladder and I was like please do not let it be that…Well I don’t think it was, cause this was my problem…I hadn’t had a good bowel movement in a very long time…I thought I was, but obviously that was not the case…I took some Miralax and gave myself the full dosage instead of a teaspoon or less…My body is so thanking me this morning and I realized that my body was backing up…And all the pressure that I have been feeling in my stomach and lower intestines that was causing all of this bloating and feeling like my insides were being ripped out…Not sure what caused the blockage but I”m so thankful that it’s over with…

I don’t necessarily like talking about poop but we all do it and for Weight Loss patients it’s especially something we have to keep under control or this might happen…

Most importantly you are feeling better! I get the same way! Things just dont move like they used to, and I have to miralax myself every week or so. Its awful to do, but you definetly feel much better afterwards…

  2. So glad things are moving along now ;-) I’m guessing you don’t take any probiotics? Or, if you do, maybe you aren’t taking them regularly? they are a bariatric person’s best friend! I like two brands in particular:

    1) Bariatric Advantage Chewable Probiotic. I take 1-2 with each meal.
    2) Jarro-Dophilius EPS. I take with each meal.

Don’t do both1 One or the other is fine! Probiotics help process protein (to maximize it’s usage in the body), and they aid in digestion. When used regularly, you should not have anymore issues!

  3. PS — Don’t take stool softeners if you take probiotics. They cancel each other out ;-)

    Hey Cari and Kasey,

Thank you for all the suggestions…I do Activa or other yogurt since it has probiotics, but it hasn’t been working I guess these past few weeks…:) So I decided that something had to be done and I had bought some Miralax when I was badly constipated a couple of months ago and it wouldn’t even work then, now it does…

  5. I’m no expert, but I really don’t think Activia is what you need here.

I have done super great with formal probiotics, taken with each meal — not cheapos, but good, high quality probiotics. I love Jamie Lee Curtis, but we bariatric types have strange plumbing, so we have totally different needs.

Also, which version are you eating? The “light” version has 8 grams of sugar and only 5 grams of protein. I tend to shoot for things that are lower in sugars and considerably higher in protein, or at the very least, 2:1 ratio of protein to sugar.

Some folks do fine with 8 grams, but…you know ;-)

I don’t want to sound preachy — just informative. We all have to make our own choices, right? I just wanted you to know, in case you weren’t aware ;-)

    Good luck!

I don’t think you sound preachy at all…I wouldn’t have a blog if I didn’t want to hear others opinion…:)

I’m skeptical about pills since I don’t absorb them, so that is why I started to eat yogurt and then started Activa…I really don’t think I absorb the yogurt either cause I shouldn’t be having problem like this…You know what I mean, if liquid Magnesium Citrate doesn’t work on me then who knows what really does…Because we all know my plumbing is different then most..LOL…Yes, I always stick with protein first because I have low sugar issues…

I will talk to my Doctor since he knows what all is going on with me and get his thoughts on what you suggested…Again, I do appreciate what you said…Always feel free to say what you think, I’m an open book…

    Thanks,

Please remember that feeling, and if it ever happens again, and Miralax doesn’t take care of it (or you’ve had bowel movements but still have pain), please call your surgeon ASAP. Both YouTubeAmelia and me have had Petersen’s Hernia, which is a form of bowel obstruction that is related to massive weight loss. If it’s not caught and surgically corrected very quickly, part of your intestine can lose its blood supply and die. I was fortunate in that regard, but YouTubeAmelia was less so — she lost a length of intestine with hers.

WOW…Thank you so much for letting me know about this Petersen’s Hernia, I have never heard of it before…That is what scares me that something might be going wrong and I’m too damn scared to have it checked out cause it seems like something is always wrong with me…It gets old after a while…I feel like alot of times I’m complaining and no one is really hearing me no matter how loud I scream…But this is off topic, I just really appreciate your time to tell me…

    Thanks,
    Berrigirl
